Sonam supports fight against malnutrition

Mumbai, Aug 26 (PTI) Actress Sonam Kapoor has been roped in as the goodwill ambassador by an NGO to create awareness about the need for nutrition in children who are fighting cancer.

Cuddles Foundation, which helps meet the nutritional needs of thousands of underprivileged children afflicted with cancer every year, today organised the 4th edition of Meher, its annual fundraiser event here, where the “Neerja” star was announced as their goodwill ambassador.

“Things we get easily we always take for granted, whether it is our body or the food we eat. When I learnt about the work Cuddles Foundation (an NGO) is doing, it made me realise what role does nutrition play during cancer treatment,” Sonam said in a statement here.

“Children suffering from cancer find it even more difficult to fight the disease when their bodies don’t have the strength because of lack of nutrition. I would do my best to spread awareness (about cancer) and would also urge people to show their concern towards these little fighters,” the actress said.

The foundation is working with more than 18,000 children out of whom approximately 30 per cent are new enrollments, a press release said here.

It has strategic partnerships with 17 hospitals including Tata Memorial Hospital, Wadia Hospital and Sion Hospital in Mumbai besides other prominent hospitals in nine cities across India and reaches out to more than 3,000 kids every month.

Apart from this, the 31-year-old actress has committed to join fight against malnutrition too, which kills over one million children in India every year.
