We can beat this together!

What a little hope can do in the fight against cancer.

Cancer treatment has its ebbs and flows. From the time early symptoms begin to surface, the diagnosis and treatment, there are various emotions at play for the patient and his family. Meet 7-year-old Saksham, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) in January 2021.

Debalina, our nutritionist at BALCO, Raipur where Saksham is seeking treatment says, “He is a very amicable child, enjoys food and loves talking to everyone. But when his condition got worse, and he was shifted to the ICU, he became very demoralised. This 7-year-old boy would tell me that he didn’t want to live anymore because the pain was unbearable. I had to manage his mother’s grief and his willingness to cooperate. Through regular nutritional counselling and an easy-to-follow diet plan, I was able to retake control of the situation.”

Debalina’s dedication and presence of mind finally paid off, and when she met Saksham after the worst was over, he said, “I want to become like you.”

Preeti, Saksham’s mother, is thankful for the positivity Debalina brought into the treatment. She says, “I was very shocked for a long time. It was Debalina’s hand holding that helped Saksham and me to do what was needed. I was scared when Saksham was in the ICU, but we got through the phase by following the prescribed diet for my child. She was extremely patient with Saksham even when he was angry with how things were going. I would not have been able to do this on my own.”

It takes a village to raise a child and an even larger one when that child’s fighting cancer. The Supplement and Ration Program that you generously sponsor went a long way in ensuring that the little boy has a second chance. Preeti, Saksham’s mother, adds, “Cuddles Foundation helped us a lot because the treatment is expensive outside of the hospital, and I wouldn’t have been able to buy the food for Saksham. The emotional support, along with the ration, made all the difference.”

Many children and their families find a way back to fight their circumstances because of your constant support. Saksham is a transformed child and has made progress in his treatment because of the kindness of strangers like you. He wants to grow up to be a doctor. We hope that his dreams will be fulfilled one day!
