A 5-year-old dreams of becoming a doctor and curing others like him!
Story of how physical and mental pain inspired Parbesh.
This is the story of 5-year-old Parbesh Alom, who fought B-Cell ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia), the most common type of cancer in children, and came out with the will to become a Doctor.
Parbesh was admitted to BBCI, Guwahati, for treatment where he was under the supervision of our Nutritionist, Momi. Momi recollects how Parbesh was once extremely hassled with the procedures of chemotherapy. She says, “Parbesh is a sharp and a happy child, but the injections involved in chemotherapy can test the best of people. He was extremely uncomfortable during this time, but his endurance for pain has gone up, and now he wants to cure others like him when he grows up because he understands what it feels like.”
With this newfound sensitivity and experience, Parbesh wants a bit of his old life back, which involved playing and studying with his best friends Junait and Tanveer back home in Nagaon, a town and a municipal board 121 kms east of Guwahati, Assam. Parbesh has spent 11 months on treatment and is now on the maintenance cycle. It will take him about 1 year and 7 months before he is declared a cancer survivor.
Parbesh’s parents are extremely hopeful about the next few months – “We are happy that Parbesh is growing stronger and is more active than before. Thanks to the ration support, we can provide him with much-needed nutrition. Parbesh is 5 years old right now, and we hope by the time he is old enough to go to school, he would have defeated cancer too.”
Thanks to your support, Parbesh has a chance to go back to his old life and work towards his dream of becoming a Doctor.
