Positivity and emotional support helped heal Obilesh
Story of how a poor family from Tamil Nadu dealt with cancer.
This is the story of Obilesh, a 4-year-old boy from Theni district in Tamil Nadu who was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) – a rare type of cancer that forms in soft tissue. Obilesh was diagnosed one and a half years ago at MMHRC, Madurai, and is now a cancer survivor.
“This stubbornly positive child,” as Nivetha, our Nutritionist at MMHRC, fondly remembers Obilesh to be. She adds, “There is a streak of mischief that brings out the survivor in him. His positivity often rubs on people around him, like his family who was initially worried about Obilesh’s future.”
“We were very depressed when Obilesh was diagnosed with cancer. But thanks to Cuddles, we have had access to both emotional support and food to improve his physical health,” says Pandieswaran, Obilesh’s father, who spends all his time at the hospital.
Nivetha put Obilesh on the Ration Program, which helped him gain weight; he was moderately thin when he started treatment. For the past one and a half years, Obilesh has received nutritious food and counselling, which has helped him recover slowly and steadily. The strength he is gaining will help him defeat cancer and help him work towards his dream of being a police officer.
Thanks to your support Obilesh and his family have been able to face these tough times with courage. This would not have been possible without you.
