A 12-year-old boy is re-building his life one day at a time.

Story of how a severely malnourished Bhagirath makes a steady recovery.

12-year-old Bhagirath came from Mehrana, a town in the Mathura division of Uttar Pradesh, to AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) in New Delhi after being diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (B-ALL). While Bhagirath’s life in Mehrana was modest, he found meaning in looking out for his three siblings, playing cricket, and studying with dreams of becoming a Doctor.

Bhagirath left an early impression on his nutritionist, Manpreet, when she first met him at AIIMS, New Delhi about a year ago. She recollects, “Bhagirath’s intelligence and determination to get better, shows in how he relates to people around him and the earnestness with which he follows the prescribed diet.” This character strength has steadily improved Bhagirath’s health, despite him fighting TB alongside his cancer treatment.

Additional foods like lassi, banana and supplements like Threptin helped him regain the weight he initially lost and helped him grow stronger. Thanks to your support, Bhagirath now weighs 28 kgs – gaining about 8 kgs throughout his treatment.

Bhagirath’s parents, who make their ends meet with daily wage construction work, are grateful for the support that they have received from AIIMS and Cuddles for their son’s treatment and nutrition requirements. Bhagirath’s father is relieved yet worried at the same time, “We were very intimidated with Bhagirath’s diagnosis and subsequent move to Delhi for his treatment. It is easy to get lost in a big place like Delhi, but we were lucky we had help, and we now understand Bhagirath’s condition much better. Bhagirath and his parents had a second chance at saving his son’s life because of you. So, thank you!
